Yardley Inserts, a manufacturer of precision engineered threaded metal inserts for a wide range of fastening applications, provides custom solutions for a variety of industries. One of Yardley’s longest relationships is with an industrial company in southeast PA that creates instrument panels for some of the most sophisticated aircraft flying today, including the S-3 Viking and the C-130 Hercules.
Yardley provides threaded metal inserts that are used to hold the cockpit instrument panels together, which are then mounted on the dashboard of the military aircraft. For over 20 years, Yardley has been proud to supply military aircraft with the inserts. “These inserts play an integral role in piloting these fighter jets,” says Tim Bailey, president of Yardley Inserts. “The inserts used in the application are the strongest available today for use with sensitive electronics.”
The inserts are used in light panels, control panels, and LCD display panels in both helicopters and fighter jets. Most importantly to Yardley, the incidence of failure for the panels has to be non-existent so the inserts have to be fail proof. “This isn’t a recreational product; it’s a military aircraft carrying our soldiers, so we had to make sure our inserts were perfect for the application,” Bailey says.
Yardley worked to create an insert that met the needs of the manufacturing facility. Bailey opted to customize an insert from their Trisert® line, which is designed to provide stronger more durable permanent threads in soft metals and plastics. Trisert® inserts will not gall, seize, corrode or strip and offer strong resistance to rotation and pull-out. Additionally, they are ideal for automated production.
Trisert® inserts are internally and externally threaded metal inserts. The inserts tap their own threads as they are turned into drilled or cored holes. The wider spaced external threads reduce installation torque and provide a stronger hold.
“Our relationship with this facility is an outstanding one,” says Bailey. “We even revisited our original design with them a few years back and improved it to even further meet their needs.” Bailey says the redesign of the self-tapping inserts eliminated a step in the insertion process, saving their customer both time and money.
In addition to Trisert® self-tapping inserts, Yardley Inserts manufactures a full line of standard and custom press-in, molded-in, epoxied-in, self tapping, ultrasonic, and thermal insert fasteners in aluminum, brass, diecast, plated steel, stainless steel and steel.
